The Commonwealth of New Britannia (commonly called New Britannia), is a multi-regional empire within NationStates formed on the 19th of June, 2006 by New Britannian Kingdom. The current monarchs of New Britannia are King-Emperor George VI (Senior Monarch) and Prince-Imperial Leonordo I (Junior Monarch), whom of which ascended the throne in late march. The current Prime Minister of the NBE is Justin. Politics[]The Commonwealth of New Britannia is a Unitary State governed under a Coregental Constitutional Autocracy and a bicameral parliamentary system. King-Emperor George VI and Prince-Imperial Leonardo are the heads of state with the King-Emperor being in seniority in the coregencey. There exists a codified constitution which legally bounds the autocrats to grant political and civil rights, such as; the freedom of speech, the freedom to establish and/or follow any religion, the freedom of press, and the right to peacefully assemble under any banner. although, traditionally the autocrats have been the promoters of said liberties and rights. Presently New Britannia is in the midst of grand reforms intended to lean it towards a meritocratic bent, with its nobility completely restructured as well as significant changes in the organization of its government. Currently the monarchy plays a large role in the daily administration of the region, though efforts have been made by the monarchs themselves to minimize their involvement where possible. Government[]New Britannia's parliament is made up of two houses; the House of Citizens and the House of Peers-Elect. The House of Citizens is comprised of all citizens of New Britannia, thus making it a direct democratic legislature. It is headed by a Speaker who is voted upon in the general elections. The House of Peers-Elect is comprised of a proportional elected body of nobles whose purpose is to serve as a self regulation mechanism to help protect the rights of The People.
OCC History[]NBE was founded on June 2006, by the nation of New Britannian Kingdom. The region was founded as a British based monarchy, which was ruled originally by the character of King Caleb I, within NBE. Since then, there have been various Kings, Dictators, Regents, and Emperors ruling the region. The region would later move over to New Britannia in an effort to rechristen the region, which had been in a long state of decline previously.
Military[]New Britannia has complex history of troubles and triumphs with its military. Originally a defender-leaning imperialist region which (ironically) engaged in extremely rare raids against targets of extreme political relevance to the region, New Britannia's military began its slow rise to power when an act created by one of the region's newer member, a raider and the future founder of Unknown, created a military act which sought to establish the beginnings of a large scale military for the region. While its grandiosity fell flat, it laid the foundations for a member known as Amorov/Zechs and, later on, his friend Hughes Fominov, to rise to prominence. Unknown would ultimately play a large role in assisting the pair in building up a military, though it never grew beyond being something of a ragtag militia in practice. The duo would engage in several raids and would eventually, under Emperor Frederick I's orders, invade Bane in order to depose its tyrannical chancellor, Estur/Kastrov. Due to the duo's concurrent involvement in Bane as citizens and later in Anzia, the de facto successor state of the Banians, the military would become somewhat neglected yet increasingly tied to the politics of the Banians and Anzians. Eventually, after the fall of Anzia and the disappearance of Emperor Frederick, Hughes de Payens would assume the role of Lord Protector of New Britannia and would effectively, with Amorov (largely considered to be the power behind the Lord Protectorate), create a military dictatorship known most commonly, though never officially, as "The Junta". The Junta would ultimately govern a rapidly deteriorating region, something they were initially not at any fault for, though a misguided invasion of Anzia and resulting quarrels with The Dominion resulted in the invasion of the New Britannian Empire, the only such occurrence in New Britannia's OCC history and ultimately the failure the Junta would be marred by and remembered for. Ironically the invasion was led by the future Prince Imperial, Leonardo Romefeller, who had had no previous involvement with the region. Eventually Emperor Frederick returned long enough to install Reynald de Monte (OCC the player that had been Charles Stefan of Anzia and the future Konstantin I of New Britannia) as Regent, with the Lord Protector reduced to a subordinate with no practical role in governance. After the collapse of the regency and Konstantin's assumption of the throne, the Military of NBE was reformed into the Royal Navy, and would be led under a golden age by Halcones. While the Royal Navy never quite became what it hoped to be, it achieved great short term success prior to Halcones' departure after being disrespected by various government officials. Afterward the navy suffered a steady decline into obscurity and inactivity before finally being reformed to the Royal Aerocorps as a largely ceremonial (given New Britannia's status as a neutral region) military, with real military functions granted to Crown liscenced organizations called syndicates, which is the present status quo.
